The seed company is developing new varieties across all segments—with a particular focus on Roma and cluster types—which will be trialed on commercial farms this season to accelerate their path to market.

“At Harmoniz, we know that every seed we develop ultimately becomes food,” says Mauricio Fernández, General Manager of Harmoniz Ibérica. “That’s why we place strong emphasis on flavor and overall quality—while ensuring the agronomic reliability growers need to remain profitable.”

Aligned with this vision, Harmoniz Ibérica continues to expand its portfolio of tomato varieties with resistance to Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV).

“We’re working across all typologies,” Fernández explains. “Beyond resistance, we’re selecting materials that are easy to grow and adaptable to different regions and crop cycles.”

To speed up the introduction of these new varieties, Harmoniz is rolling out an extensive trial program, including commercial demonstration plots developed in partnership with growers throughout southeastern Spain—including the province of Málaga.

“We’ll be running trials in Murcia, eastern and western Almería, La Cañada, and along the Málaga coast,” Fernández notes. “The goal is to deliver varieties that perform consistently across diverse growing areas and conditions.

What’s Next for Tomatoes

Harmoniz is developing a new line of Roma tomatoes with ToBRFV resistance, covering a wide range of sizes. The goal is to provide reliable solutions for both domestic and export markets—combining high yields with firmness, consistency, and extended shelf life.

In the TOV segment, the company is also advancing a broad pipeline of materials expected to hit the market soon. “These are medium-to-large varieties with uniform fruit setting, vibrant color, firmness, and built-in ToBRFV resistance,” says Fernández.

Alongside Roma and cluster—the dominant field types—Harmoniz is pushing innovation in cocktail, cherry on the vine, mini plum, and even more unconventional types with unique shapes or standout colors. “We’re exploring alternatives to the traditional round cherry,” Fernández adds.

These new specialty varieties will be introduced under Harmoniz Select, a concept designed to create value throughout the entire supply chain by connecting evolving consumer preferences with the needs of growers (resistance, performance), distributors, and retailers.

With all these launches underway, Harmoniz is building a robust portfolio of nearly 20 hybrids—including Gabor and Dormaplum, two mini plum tomatoes with ToBRFV resistance, and Mira Sol, a high-performing yellow snack plum also featuring this key trait.
